Explore my work and diverse skill set. This is a WIP.
I have been obsessed with entrepreneurship since I can remember. It all started picking up garbage in rural Manitoba with my girlfriend's (at the time) brother in law. The bug bit me. From buying and re-packaging hockey cards in school to promotions companies that hosted hundreds of events, from a record label, to a marketing firm, to an event management platform that served thousands of clients in 14 countries ... entrepreneurship has been a part of my story in the most profound of ways.
Through my many successes and failures, my world vision and skill set grew.
My career is event coordination and management is long and storied. I started out as a DJ and when I figured out that no one wanted to book a 16 year old to play their gigs, I started renting out legions and charging entry.
From there, I ran shows to support the hip hop artists and DJs I managed. Then I came up with a nightclub concept that also involved a TV show (which I duplicated twice more).
I brought Big Pun, Kanye West, Snoop, Drake, Tila Tequila and many many other acts to stages through a multitude of deals, promotions, and events.
Hiding behind all the flashing lights was a darkness though. Every year, the events I would get most excited for were Halloween themed. I started scaring people at my parties and that turned into a bit of an obsession that culminated in the production of Fear for 5 years.
Fear took everything I've ever known about event marketing, coordination, planning, production, and logistics and allowed me to apply it in a larger than life production.
My relentlessness to make my mark likely comes from my career in nightlife. At one point, I even abandoned my entrepreneurial spirit in favour of a corporate job in the industry to further my goals.
The promotions I ran are innumerable. The highlights though, those are easy to trace. The peak of it all was Mystique Nightclub. I built it and promoted the opening with $40k! Every piece of that club came from me.
I was also involved with launching many, many clubs and club nights, but Area Nightclub was a particular highlight because we made the top North American clubs list as curated by Jake Taffer. That was a moment!
I ultimately ended my career in nightclubs for a variety of reasons but the street smarts I learned and grit I carry with me today was well worth staying up day and night to get the job done.
